Week 3

Books
Since I kid I've been a bookworm. My parents developed this system where each book will earn you as much points as pages had, and that points will be interchangeable for what I, as a kid, wanted! (games, other books, even travels!).
You may think that the method was quite easy to bypass, and to earn more points than deserved, but I was such a innocent kid I did not even though of cheating once!
So this weeks theme was quite in my confort zone, I own plenty of books, and I've always been in love with it's magic and power.
The idea just sparked on my head, it was not orignal, it was not ground-shaking,but it got stuck on my head and invalid me to think of any other possibility: I wanted to do a Patronus Charm.
Harry Potter was such an obsession for me as a teenager, I would even read the books in english because I couldn't wait for the spanish version to be published half a year later (in fact I'm really gratefull because, in some way, I own my half-decent level of english to Harry Potter!!!)
I've never been a massive photoshop geek, I self-taugh myself and I have a really messy process of working, but I'm quite proud of the outcome!

Just in case the patronus didn't worked I also played around with the idea of a 'glowing book' as a second option.
So I did my expasion, and I positioned myself on my couch juggling with a bed-lamp to light myself, and Voilá!

Week 2

Red

When I though about this theme my mind instantly went back to Red Ridding Hood tale, and to the amazing red coat I gifted myself last winter.
So I packed my camera,my coat and golden hour coming closer and closer I walked out the door.
I lived on the outskirts, on a ex-agricultural area,so I was hoping to find something that could resemble a forest, but a cane-forest was all I could find. So sadly I realized that I wouldn't be able to fit the image I had on my head and end up doing a simple shoot.
Even though I love the really mild weather we have here on the islands, when it comes to photography I feel really sad that I don't have forest, rivers or lakes, no snow, no red-orange-yellow falling leaves on autumn.
So there you go, here you have the final image I upload and some outtakes :)

Week 1

I've never blogged before, so excuse me if this come up as an impossible to understand bunch of phrases!

I've been struggling to find myself again after some life issues happened, and I was leaving photography a bit behind. So when I came across this wonderfull facebook group that featured some of my most admired photographers encouraging everybody to join in a massive collaboration 52 themed-weeks challenge - self-portrait edition-, I just sobered up. I have very low expectations on myself, but I'm willing to try to stick to it for the whole year. Feel free to follow, or even join the project, on these links:

As to the matter, first week theme was 'Camera'.
The first thing that popped  into my head was that I didn't want to do a simple selfie holding my camera, maybe because I've done that way too many times before. So I started to move the idea around on my head trying to come up with something and then I remembered some conversations I had time back then when I was starting to be into photography.

I remembered all these people that told me how amazing my photos were just to point out next second that obviously they had to be good as I had an 'expensive' camera. Even back then, when I was only playing around, when I didn't plan beforehand, when I didn't spend day trying to work out a concept, it bothered me.

The camera is probably not even the most important part of photography (at least that how I see it). The person behind the camera, the person in front of the camera, the process before you press the shutter, the post-process afterwards.
Chosing the location, the wardrobe, the make up, the props...
Working with the available light you have, sometimes fighting against the clock to get it done before the sun sets or rises...
Chosing the RIGHT photo, the one that would made the whole set worth it, maybe to go through 300 photos until you find the ONE ( that would also need to go through photoshop to, hopefully, end up being the piece you first imaged)

Because I'm mainly a self-portratist I tried to focused myself on the relationship of the photographer with his/her camera: The visión behind the machine.

So, this is my attempt at conveying that feeling.
I found myself really rusty, feeling uncomfortable in front of the camera and not knowing quite what to do. But in the end the result was acceptable!
And I was really pleased at how the shutter-eye turned out :)

The tool is not the only thing that matters'

Introductions are always the worst part

Hello there internet!

My name is Silvia Travieso and I'm an aspiring, 22 years old self-taught photographer.

I've been posting my work online on diferent websites for nearly six years now, and I've reach that point where out of a 500 pictures shoot I'll only post one (If I'm lucky and happy with the result!). There's a lot of more 'daily' and not so prepared or processed images that just remain there on the dusty folders of my hard drive. So I've decided that a photography-themed blog will be the best way to give them a possibility and help me turn down the obsessive perfection-hours of pp- images.
Maybe some behind the scenes, some before and after, inspirational people or maybe just some daily unclassified images.
I'm also thinking of starting a 365 project, so this will also be - I think - the best platform to share it!

Bare in mind english is not my first language and maybe this blog will fall through, although I'm hoping for -at least- 2 uploads a month

So this is my face and I hope you will come with me in this journey!
Don't be afraid to leave your thougths and opinions :)
